From My Pink Container: How We Grow, Extract, and Do Things Differently at Happy Fungi
When I first started Happy Fungi, I wasn’t setting out to build a trend-led supplement brand or jump on the latest wellness bandwagon. I was looking for something real. Something I could grow with my own two hands. Something that actually worked. That something turned out to be Lion’s Mane — and it’s completely reshaped my life.
Now, I want to take you behind the scenes — into the pink shipping container in Somerset where it all begins — and share how we grow, extract, and keep things grounded in purpose, not hype.

🍄 Growing Lion’s Mane — the Happy Fungi Way
Most functional mushroom products in the UK are imported from China, the US, or Eastern Europe — often with little visibility over what’s actually in them.
That’s not how I work.
Everything starts inside our pink shipping container, nestled in the Somerset countryside. This isn’t your average grow room. It’s powered by a neighbouring biogas plant, meaning every mushroom is grown using 100% renewable energy — some of which actually comes from spent mushroom substrate in a circular loop. Nature gives, we grow, and we give back.
We grow on organic, food-grade substrate — not grain, and definitely not sawdust with fillers. That matters. It affects flavour, potency, and integrity. Every batch is done by hand: inoculating, incubating, fruiting, harvesting — all timed to coax out the highest levels of beneficial compounds from each flush. There’s no automation. No outsourcing. Just real, careful cultivation.

🧪 Why We Triple Extract — and What That Means for You
Most mushroom tinctures on the market use single or double extraction. That’s fine, but we go a step further — with a triple-extraction method that ensures you get the full spectrum of beneficial compounds in every bottle.
We extract at a 1:4 ratio, using both hot water and alcohol over a long, careful process. This pulls out the powerful beta-glucans (water-soluble) and the hericenones and erinacines (alcohol-soluble) that give Lion’s Mane its reputation for supporting brain health, focus, memory, and gut balance.
It takes longer. It costs more. But it’s worth it. We’re not here to cut corners. We’re here to offer something that actually makes a difference.

🌱 Sustainability Isn’t a Buzzword — It’s Baked In
Because we’re based on a biogas farm, we’ve been able to make sustainability part of our process from day one. Here’s what that looks like:
- 100% renewable energy powers our entire growing operation
- Circular production: our waste mushroom substrate feeds the biogas system
- Minimal packaging: our dried mushrooms come in home-compostable pouches; tinctures are in recyclable glass
- No plastic scoops, glossy boxes or gimmicky extras — just what you need, nothing more
And because we grow everything ourselves here in the UK, our footprint is smaller and our supply chain is completely transparent.

🙌 Our Values (and Why We Don’t Follow the Crowd)
Happy Fungi isn’t about fast growth or clever branding — it’s about doing things properly. That means:
- Putting quality over trends
- Taking time to educate, not oversell
- Building a brand with real roots in sustainability, intention and community
- Never compromising on transparency or integrity
You’ll never find grain-based filler in our mushrooms. You’ll never find outrageous health claims on our labels. What you will find is a product that’s been lovingly grown, patiently extracted, and honestly presented.

✨ Why This Matters
In a world of mass-produced wellness, I believe there’s something powerful about being able to trace your Lion’s Mane back to a pink container in Somerset — and to someone who actually grew it.
If you’re someone who values substance over hype, who wants to support your focus, gut and immune health with something that’s actually been made with care, then I think you’re in the right place.
Thanks for being here. And thanks for supporting real mushrooms, grown with purpose.
